  • Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. posted net income of $50.6 million for the fiscal third quarter ended in April, a 14 percent increase over the $44.3 million reported for the same period a year ago.

However, revenue dropped 2.7 percent to $2.82 billion from $2.9 billion a year earlier. Same- store sales were off two percent for the quarter.

Winn-Dixie blamed a late Easter, economic uncertainty, aggressive competition for the drop in sales, and attributed its increased profitability to reduced labor costs and greater operating efficiency.

  • Drugstore.com posted a first-quarter net loss of $5.6 million, compared with a loss of $23.5 million a year earlier. Net sales rose to $57 million from $43.9 million.
