The Electronic Privacy Information Center and the Media Access Project are just two privacy and consumer-advocacy groups that have asked the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to investigate online retailer Amazon.com for violating federal privacy laws.

The Washington Post reports that the accusation stems from concerns that by letting children under 13 post personal information on its site, Amazon has violated a 1998 law, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, that requires parental consent in such cases.
