The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has named Food Lion an "ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year" for its "outstanding" reductions in energy consumption through energy management leadership. This is the second-consecutive year Food Lion has earned the designation. Food Lion is the only supermarket company to receive the honor, as it was in 2002.
"Food Lion has made ENERGY STAR and energy performance part of its overall business strategy as well as its day-to-day operations," said Kathleen Hogan, director of the EPA's Climate Protection Partnerships Division. "Food Lion has demonstrated a long-term commitment to the environment and to its bottom line."
