  • Starbucks Corp. said same-store sales at company-operated stores rose nine percent in September compared with the same period a year ago. It posted consolidated net revenues of $338 million for the five weeks ended Sept. 29, up 26 percent from the same period a year earlier.

    Starbucks reportedly opened 115 new stores in September, bringing its worldwide total to 5,886, including 4,574 in continental North America and 1,312 international stores.


  • PriceSmart, Inc. reported that net sales increased 12% to $51.4 million for the month of September from $45.8 million a year earlier. There were 26 warehouses in operation at the end of September 2002 compared to 22 at the end of September last year. For the four weeks ended September 29, 2002, same-store sales rose 1.9% compared to the same four-week period last year. Excluding the two stores impacted by additional PriceSmart openings within the last 12 months, comparable warehouse sales increased 2.6%.
